Head to El Catrin on a warm spring or summer day to sip fresh margaritas on one of the best patios in the city.
El Rey
In search of mezcal in Toronto? Your hunt is over. El Rey is the ultimate mezcal bar, with near 40 different kinds served in flights or shaken or stirred into your favorite cocktail. Their menu is dominated by their extensive drink specialties, but you’ll find a couple of signature tacos in the snacks section. Chose between the el pastor taco, crispy qquid taco or mushroom taco and pair with the margarita with mezcal to truly ignite your taste buds.
Grand Electric
Don’t let the small interior of Grand Electric deter you. The popular Parkdale Mexican joint offers a wide variety of tasty tacos, including a stellar fish taco that’s second to none. The lively atmosphere matches the restaurant’s name, making it the ideal place to inhale tacos while sipping on tequila. Visit Grand Electric on taco Tuesday for $2.99 tacos.
Tacos Rico
No animals were harmed making these delicious tacos! Owned and operated by the same folks running Grand Electric, Tacos Rico serves up delicious vegetarian tacos, seven days a week. As more and more people adopt a plant-based lifestyle, Tacos Rico is the perfect destination for fresh vegetarian/vegan Mexican fare at an affordable price. Pair their eggplant and mole, or zucchini and avocado tacos with the mezcalita for a delicious margarita alternative.
La Carnita
This trendy Mexican restaurant franchise boasts neon signage with candy skull décor to create a hip vibe at every location. Their taco options offer a variety of drool-worthy flavors from spicy mushrooms and crispy sweet potato for vegetarians to confit pork, grilled chicken, crispy cod and more! And with a number of locations across the GTA and Canada, it’s never been easier to indulge your taste buds next taco Tuesday!
Seven Lives
Another Kensington gem, Seven Lives is infamous for their Baja-style tacos. Made with only fresh ingredients, heaped in generous portions, it’s no surprise the lineup for Seven Lives is often out the door. Their signature taco, the Gobernador, packs a punch, combining smoked marlin, grilled shrimp and cheese between a fresh tortilla shell. At $6 a taco, you can afford to try as many of the 8 seasonally rotating tacos you can eat!
Xola
Grasshopper tacos may not sound appetizing, but Xola is committed to serving traditional Mexican fare, including this crunchy delicacy. Located in Toronto’s trendy beaches neighborhood, the cozy taqueria features an extensive tequila and margarita menu. Including unique flavors such as spicy cucumber, spicy strawberry, and spicy mango margaritas. Seating is limited but well worth any wait.
Chula Taberna
Leslieville is home to my personal favorite Mexican joint – Chula Taberna. Their taco menu is complete with options including carnitas, beef brisket, spicy shrimp, beer-battered haddock and crispy general tao chicken. The ambiance is unparalleled, paying homage to Mexican tradition through ceramic tiles, painted wall murals and plenty of candy skulls. Visit Mondays to enjoy $5 margaritas, Tuesdays to sample $5 tacos, and every day to indulge in the unique flavors of their Mexican-fusion cuisine!
Torteria San Cosme
In the mood for something a little different? Head to Torteria San Cosme in Toronto’s Kensington neighborhood for Mexican street-style sandwiches. Choose between a variety of meats, veggies and cheeses all served on a buttered soft bun with pickled jalapenos made fresh in-house. Feeling peckish? Indulge in Mexican style corn on the cob, guacamole and chips, or churros.
