I cannot stress this strategy enough. How easy is it to look at a Pokemon Go map if you don’t already know where the hot spots in your town are and park your taco cart or taco truck right next to a Gym or PokeStop? Drop a lure and sit back and watch the foot traffic increase. Announce to your following that you’ll be at the PokeStop for lunch and you’ll be dropping a lure every half hour for 2 hours. The price of a lure when you buy the biggest package breaks down to $1.19/hour. Talk about R.O.I. Come on this is easy!!!
10 ways that businesses can use Pokemon GO in their marketing
With the success of Pokemon GO, a lot of people are looking for ways to cash in on the game by using it to market their businesses.
So far, I have come up with a list of 10 ways that businesses can use Pokemon GO in their marketing.
Those 10 ways are:
- If you are a gym or Pokestop, advertise that fact with signage irl and ads online.
- Give discounts to Pokemon GO trainers in return for social mentions (ask your customers to take pics of the Pokemon they see and share them), check ins, and depending on which team controls the local gym.
- If you sell something, put a Pokemon GO spin on it. An ice cream shop changed their flavor names, a brewery changed their beer names (or just brewed new beer?), a doughnut shop made Pokeball douhgnuts, etc.
- If you are a gym, proudly display a banner or sign for the team that holds the gym and announce changes.
- If you are a Pokestop, buy some freaking lures! These are in app purchases that bring players to you (lures attract pokemon, pokemon bring in players). It works out to $1.19 per hour. There also is an app where you can request players put lures on your business for you.
- Run a pokehunt. Organize it to start and end at your business. Buy some incense as it works on travelling parties (usually it is for individuals only).
- Go where the Pokemon roam, if you can. This is ideal for stands, carts, food trucks, etc. I saw some kids setup a lemonade stand in a park that was popular with Pokemon GO trainers.
- Just straight up give something to Pokemon GO players. I’ve seen people giving away buttons, badges, and coupons.
- If you can, offer players free wifi, free water, and device charging.
- If you do any of those above things, notify some people to get press coverage. You could get your business on tv or at least get some links and shares online.
